Due to relatively inextensive rail network traveling by train in Croatia is not as popular mode of transportation as in other European countries. However, it is worth to point out that number of passengers (especially younger ones) who travel by rail is growing every year. This trend is mainly result of relatively inexpensive train tickets and increased quality and standard of many railways. In past years Croatia managed to reconstruct many railways which enabled much more comfortable and shorter traveling towards many tourist destinations.
Larger Croatian towns have direct connections with Slovenia, Italy, Austria, Switzerland, Hungary, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Serbia and Monte Negro. Besides direct trains Croatia also has indirect connections with almost all European countries.
